Not that they want to know What I Was Thinking, but Daisy... Wake up! (2)
I, Jordan Baker, will admit it. I love gossip, even when it's concerning my best friend. I almost heard Tom's conversation with his mystery mistress that morning Nick arrived. Unfortunately, Nick couldn't quite comprehend the situation and kept speaking. This gossip, is specifically interesting because I actually care about the woman it affects: Daisy. I want her to wake up, stand up for herself, and divorce Tom. Unfortunately, there's nothing I could tell her that would surprise her. I am almost positive Daisy knows about Tom's unfaithfulness. This is what angers me the most. She knows that her husband is cheating on her and yet she remains married to him. I must admit that I originally thought Daisy needed Tom to get over Gatsby. I felt that he could distract her and I was not aware of Tom's true character. She seemed happy with him and I like to see her happy. However, I realize now that he is nothing but conceited and careless. When I heard the phone call, I was originally surprised. I could not believe the tactlessness of the woman... Calling a married man... On his home telephone... While his wife is home... Next, I wanted nothing more than to hear Daisy storm over to him, demand to speak to the woman on the phone, and then ask for a divorce. I know that Daisy doesn't believe in divorce, but Tom's ignorance, abuse, and manipulation definitely call for it. I will never let a man treat me like this.
Jordan,
ReplyDeleteYou were always such a great and lovely friend towards me. I am so glad to have a friend as kind and as caring as you. I figured Tom was cheating on me, but I have been cheating on him too. We both have careless character. That is what makes us a good couple. You are correct in saying that I do not believe in divorce. He does not abuse me. We have had our rough times, but nothing too rough. You do not have to worry about me. I am completely fine with my husband.
Love, Daisy
